Another option for HDMI on ZX Spectrum:

DivGMX interface to expand your ZX Spectrum: DivMMC, DMA Ultra Sound Card, USB-gamepad, USB-keyboard, USB-mouse, General Sound, SounDrive, Turbo Sound, and ofcourse: HDMI video-output. It is an FPGA, and draws power from the ZX Bus.

Purchase here (use Google Translate): https://zx-pk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5652
$57 US + shipping + female to female ZX-BUS connector (if in stock!)

Remember to purchase a female to female ZX-BUS connector, as they are not included in the price!

Auf https://www.bytedelight.com/ schreibt Ben aber:

Talking about a ‘it can do all’ interface: I’m really curious about the DivGMX which seems to combine things like HDMI with sound over HDMI, DivMMC, TurboSound and much more on an ordinary ZX Spectrum.
But.. I’m not sure if it actually ‘uses’ the connected ZX Spectrum and acts like an interface, or that it ONLY uses the ZX Spectrum ‘as a keyboard’.
There should be one on its way for me to test soon.

No, it just like a DivMMC board and add HDMI, USB keyboard/Mouse and Turbo sound. It still need the ZX Spectrum running. But you can use it as a stand alone FPGA board like ZX Uno or ZX Spectrum Next

Hallo,
die Sache mit dem Connector verwirrt mich etwas ;)
Da muss man aber noch mit anfallenden Zollgebühren rechnen ?
Gruß,
Günter

Hello,
I am not a seller who design this board, I just want to give a correct information about it.
As I understand this board was designed for ZX Evo or stand alone FPGA board so it is not include female connector for ZX Spectrum.
You can buy the female adapter from seller.

Hi Luzie. That Facebook-post was mine.

I stopped using the DivGMX as an extension for a real ZX Spectrum, and now primarily use it as a stand-alone FPGA running the ZX Spectrum compatible 'TS-Config' core. (I think it is based on ZX Evolution, though I'm not very technical minded.)

Stand-alone is how I will continue to use the DivGMX. It is great for doing ZX Spectrum streams, and actually works great with a PC-keyboard attached, something which I initally doubted. The number pad defaults as a Kempston joystick.

Audio over HDMI is broken, imho. I don't think he worked out how to do it properly. DivGMX has an audio-out through mini-jack, and audio over that line sounds perfect. So that's what I use, and plug directly into my capture card, bypassing HDMI audio in grabber software (OBS Studio.)

If you want to see how it works in practice, I've made two long streams where I browse random russian disk images:

I boot to the EXCELLENT Wild Commander ( http://forum.tslabs.info/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=143 ) - and you can see in the video how it functions. It is like Norton Commander, and has tons of functions, which you can see in the video.

I really wish the ZX Spectrum Next had Wild Commander! It is the perfect interface for me. :)

I hope this info helps you.

Regards,
dakidski

Dear dakidski,

many thanks for you reply and videos!

I myself own a ZX Evo aka Pentevo, but has not yet done very much with it. And not had used TS-Config/WC on it.

Looks very good.

Maybe someday ZX Next will have something like Wild Commander, but first nextZXOS needs support for .TRD-Images like esxDOS has with it´s built-in TR-DOS emulator. ZX Next is a relative new development, so hope the developers will someday find interest in adding some like WC with to nextZXOS.

Dear Luzie,
Naturally I agree with you, but this is what Verhagen-Guest from the ZX Next-team wrote on Facebook regarding .trd:
"Lots of file extensions. The browser is configurable in a config file to support any extension by supplying your own loaders. So the browser is just a GUI, custom handlers supply all the real functionality.

TRD is just a disk container format like DSK and P3D, there’s no problem there. The real reason TRD don’t work in NextZXOS is not the disk file format, it’s that BetaDisk hardware traps and ROM must be present for disk functions to work, and the ROM is distribution denied.

In theory it’s possible to support if you provide your own files, but it’s not been a high priority of the Next team because Betadisk is only common in the ex-USSR community, whereas NextZXOS is an evolution of the +3 in the Western community."
Boiled down: Western (read: British) sphere ZX'ing is their goal. Eastern scene is ignored.

Further regarding ts-config cores or WC for the ZX Next:
It should definitely be possible. So far, only a few people on the Next team have been working on small number alternate cores, and either nobody there has a tsconf, or nobody has a special interest, or there is no free time to work on it.

When more people get their hands on Nexts, and some alt core examples are published, I am sure we will see more FPGA experts in the community porting existing cores running on other FPGAs to the Next board.

The architecture of the physical ZX Evolution boards shouldn't matter too much, provided the complexity is enough to fit in a Xilinx SLX16, and the right knowledge is possessed and shared.
Boiled down: They have done their part, the rest is up to the users.

I would say: Here we have to wait.

Because author of NextZXOS Garry Lancaster writes on facebook: "I would like to do this at some point, yes, but it won't be done in the immediate future."
